Senior Principal and Owner of Blackburn Architects, John Blackburn, AIA, has over 30 years of experience in architecture and custom design. Mr. Blackburn's work has garnered several awards, including AIA awards for Morven Stud in Charlottesville, Virginia and for the adaptive reuse of an 1800s bank barn in Leesburg, Virginia.

Blackburn Architects, P.C. is a small architecture, planning, and interior design firm with a wide range of experience in both large and small projects, including single family residential, equestrian, renovation, and commercial interiors. For the past 25 years, Blackburn Architects has specialized in custom equestrian design services. From 4-stall to 40-stall barns, breeding pens to enclosed arenas, we’ve designed it all. But as all things custom-made, it can be expensive and time-consuming.

Using the same principles that have led Blackburn Architects, P.C. to become the leading experts in equestrian design, Blackburn greenbarnsTM provides clients with the same standards of excellence at a stricter budget. We want you to know you don’t have sacrifice the look, the functional quality, or the sustainability to get the savings. *Consultation services are provided under our business name, Blackburn Equestrian Design, rather than Blackburn Architects, PC, due to individual state's licensing requirements for the practice of architecture. Currently, Blackburn Architects is a registered architect in 27 states, including the District of Columbia, but can acquire licenses for other states though reciprocity when and if required (a process that takes approximately two months). Whether a licensed architect is required to produce design work for "agricultural structures,"—the category for most private equine facilities--varies by state. For consultation services in foreign countries, other regulations and requirements may apply and are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
